What's Christmas to You?

What is Christmas about? What do you think it is, in your mind?
Christmas is about God sending his only son, the Perfect Lamb, as a sacrifice so that we, as His creation, would be able to have a way out of sin and an open door to heaven.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son,
that whoever believes in him will have everlasting life

John 14: 6 Jesus answered, “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.”

You may have heard individuals talking about losing the focus of Christmas, perhaps in a conversation or a movie. In some sense, our culture has lost a lot of the picture of Christmas. Santa bringing presents to obedient little children, people shopping, attempting to find the perfect gift for a
loved one, and the general “season” or the “perfect feeling” of Christmas
air.

So what should Christmas really be?

If I wanted to define Christmas in one word, I would have to use the word “giving”. Jesus was God’s only son and God sent Him into our sinful world so that we might have a way to be with God in heaven and to eventually be totally and completely blameless, living and praising God eternally. He gave His only son, and ultimately, Jesus gave us His life.

What does your Christmas look like? Are you busy? Too busy to even stop for a second? Are you stressed over making everything perfect the way it “has” to be, or are you taking Christmas as it comes to you?

This year Christmas will be very different for my family. We usually stay home, eat lots of food, cook turkey or ham (I don’t like turkey), watch some Christmas movies…and of course, open presents. This year we will be away from our home but will be in our Grandpa’s house. My Grandma died in August, and this will be Grandpa’s first holiday by himself. We will be
giving up our normal traditions to spend much needed time with much loved relatives.

This Christmas that I have described to you is so far is all about what were are actually doing on Christmas day. Although, yes, what we are doing on Christmas is relatively important to us, but what is more important to God is the meaning of Christmas. No matter where we are, nothing about Christmas changes. It’s still about Jesus, it’s still about giving, and
it’s still about God’s love for us.

This Christmas season, what can you give to make someone else's Christmas better? In what ways can you make sure that you don’t get caught up in the busyness of Christmas, and that your focus is on the gift Christ has given you?
